10 minutes with an editor...ack!

As most of you know, I'm going to the Lori Foster Get Together June 1st. I'll be pitching my latest manuscripts (Savor Me and Lavish Me) to an editor with St. Martin's Press. I'm very nervous. So, to help me feel prepared I did some research. Here's what I've found out about this very frightening topic of "10 minutes with an editor"

These key points are from editors, not yours truly! I’ve wadded through the internet and selected the most important things, leaving out the bs.

You’ll first introduce yourself and give some writing credentials. Are you published and where, etc.. and now, onto the good stuff:

Pitch Points to Remember:
1.) A catchy tagline, a one or two-liner that describes the hook of your story.

2.) Now, after the hook/tagline/high concept one-liner, if your audience is still interested, have a short mini-blurb ready. Editors want to know the high points only!

3.) Write your hook/blurb down so you get it as perfect as possible. No one wants to listen to you hem, haw, um, uhhh through what your book is about. Polish your delivery, be prepared to pitch it to a reader anywhere at any time.

4.) Have business cards—put your two key sentences on the back, as a reminder to the editor what your story was about.

5.) Always say thank you!

6.) Lastly, be calm. Remember, editors are people too. Think of the Pitch as talking to a reader about your story. AND, your excitement helps sell the story!

Now, that I've explained. I will reply back to this after the Pitch and let you know how great/awful it went. Whether I botched it or rocked...I'll spill it all here! So, stay tuned.

Instructing Sarah
Blurb:

Greg Stiles craves his neighbor, Sarah Templeton. He figures she should've been named Sarah Temptation. So far, he's been a good boy and kept his distance. When another man moves into their complex and starts sniffing around Sarah, Greg's honorable intentions fly right out the window. Time to show Miss Templeton just how good he can be.

Sarah isn't ashamed of her virginal status, just tired of it. She's always wanted a husband, kids, and the white picket fence. Those dreams seem forever out of reach. So when her hunky neighbor asks her out on a date, she jumps at the chance. She's watched him. Wanted him. Now she'll have him. Problem is, how does she keep him?
