Sam's Promise--Cover Unveiling!

If you're on my Facebook Fan Page then you saw this already. But I wanted to share it here too. I love it too much not to show it to everyone!

This is the gorgeous cover for my December 13th Samhain Publishing release, Sam's Promise, which is the first story in my Blackwater series. Yummy, huh?
And a quote from the hero of the story, Sam Jennings:

He shoved his hands in the front pockets of his pants to keep himself from reaching out and tugging her into his arms. “Just know that I like you in the waitress getup. I like you in the sexy-ass dress and heels too. And I really like you in the oversized sweats. The fact is, I just like you.”

Go HERE to read an excerpt!

And be sure to stop by here tomorrow for my Saturday Snippet. This time the theme is 'author's choice'. And trust me, my choice is going to be EXTRA HOT!!

A few favorite scenes

Today I'm posting a few of my personal favorite quotes/scenes from my stories! :-)

From A Little Bit Naughty:

She pushed out of his arms and sat at the old, scarred wood table. "I’m slightly overweight, and I have zero fashion sense. Hardly a hottie, Leo."

Leo straddled the chair across from her and waited until she dug into her pork before saying, "It’s like when a dog spies a juicy hamburger on the edge of the counter. I don’t care how well behaved the dog is. He’s going to try and get a taste. And you, sweetheart, are juicy."

She stopped chewing and frowned up at him. Swallowing back a bite, she said, "Are you saying I’m a hamburger? If you’re going to compare me to beef at least make it a steak."

He chuckled and dug into his own food. "You’re a filet mignon and don’t you forget it."

From What She Wants:

Emotions clogged her throat at his declaration. When he pushed his way into her suite and set her on her feet, he frowned. "Why do you look like someone just kicked your puppy? I thought you’d be happy to see me."

She bit her lip and shook her head.

"What is it, pretty baby?"

"I-I’ve missed you too."

He stepped closer, pinning her between his large body and the door, then he leaned down until he was a mere breath away. "When I come within ten feet of you I bet your heart races, doesn’t it? Your eyes turn drowsy and your nipples peak for me." He paused, tipped up her chin and forced her to look at him. "I know I turn you on, and I sort of had the feeling you were beginning to care about me." The finger resting under her chin moved down to her neck. He massaged her jumping pulse. "Now I have this crazy feeling that you’d rather I’d stayed in Ohio. Is that it, baby?"

She couldn’t think with him so close, touching her. As she breathed in his musky male scent, Summer blurted out the first thing to pop into her head. "Your life is in Ohio, Gage. Mine’s here. How can that possibly work?"

"Things can change."

From So Sensitive:

He leaned forward in his chair and placed both hands on her thighs and squeezed. His warmth seeped right through the jeans she‟d pulled on earlier. "So, is Hard & Dangerous anyone I know, baby?"

His cocky attitude had her speaking without thinking. "No. You wouldn‟t know him. But it doesn‟t matter because I‟ve decided he‟s too arrogant for me. And annoying. He‟s very annoying."

He had the nerve to chuckle. "Oh, yeah?"

Gracie batted his hands away from her thighs. "Definitely. In fact, if I saw him right now, I‟d probably hit him or something."

He leaned back, his ornery grin speaking volumes. "Brings out the worst in you, does he?"

To give herself something to do, Gracie started fiddling with the keys on her laptop. "I don‟t know about the worst, but he does bring me to violence quite often."

"That‟s not the tune you were singing in that last post. In fact, I believe you said something about wanting to eat him up because he‟s
so delicious."

Her temples started to pound. "I‟ve amended my earlier assessment of the man."

From my upcoming release Pleasure Bound (Oct. 25):

Jonas reached over and brought one of her hands away from her face, then gave it a little squeeze. "What is it? Talk to me."

She sighed and slumped against the seat. "I keep seeing Ray pointing that gun at you. You could've died and there would've been nothing I could do to stop him, Jonas."

Jonas couldn‟t be more surprised. "That‟s what‟s upsetting you? Fear for me?"

"I panicked and just sat there," she cried out. "I couldn't breathe, Jonas. I thought he was going to kill you and I just sat there."

When she started to cry big, silent tears, Jonas felt like someone was ripping him apart from the inside. "Stop, damn it," Jonas gently ordered as he brought her hand to his lips for a kiss. "Stop beating yourself up or I swear I'll spank your ass."

Deanna laughed and Jonas thought she sounded close to hysterics. "As far as threats, that's a lousy one."

"Why, because you think I won‟t do it?"

"No, because a spanking from you isn‟t frightening--it‟s hot."

I hope you enjoyed those!!

Snippet Saturday--Milestone

Today's Snippet Saturday theme is supposed to be 'milestone'. I've chosen a scene from Cherry on Top because this is the first story I sold to a New York Publishing house. It's still special to me. :-)

Also, don't forget about my 'follow' contest!

As he maneuvered the car into a space, he shut off the engine and turned to her. “We’re here.”

“I barely know you,” she blurted out.

Dante leaned forward and took her face in the palms of his hands. “I’ve watched you every day for the last three months. I’ve wanted you since the first moment I saw you. I can’t stop wanting you, believe me I tried.”

It’d been the same for her, but she wasn’t about to give him that sort of leverage. “But you want my shop. You want to close me down. You admitted that yourself.”

He shook his head. “It’s true I wanted the space. Hell, look at it from my viewpoint. I go away on a two-day business trip only to come back and find it already leased. I won’t lie to you, Cherry, I wasn’t real thrilled.”

“Yeah, I thought as much.”

“I had that place all planned out before you came along,” he murmured “And I had thought to coerce you into giving it up, but I still would’ve compensated you so you could open Serene Comfort elsewhere.”

“And now?”

“Right now the only thing I can think of is you. What you look like underneath those conservative slacks and that silk blouse. I have a fair idea, but I’d really like to see for myself.”

“You’re much too bold and I’m way out of your league.”

“How so?”

“For three years I was married to a man who tried his best to destroy my sense of self-worth by cheating on me.”

Dante’s face hardened, as if angered on her behalf. “Why did you stay with him?”

She shrugged. “When you love someone you don’t give up at the first sign of trouble. I wanted to make it work, no matter what.”

“What changed?”

“I realized that some men are better off single.”

Dante’s grin lit her on fire. “He was an idiot. I never would have looked at other women if I had you in my bed.”

She leaned back, to preserve her sanity if nothing else, which forced him to drop his hands. “Don’t flatter me. I’m already here so obviously flattery isn’t necessary.”

His features changed, turned hard. “I do not lie. I say what I mean.”

She faltered at the seriousness in his tone. “I’m not perfect, Dante, I have just as many flaws as the next gal.”

“Maybe, but I like you just as you are. I wouldn’t expect you to be anything other than you.”

“You don’t even know me.”

Dante closed the gap she’d created. “You’re Cherry DuBois, the sexy massage therapist who managed to snap up the space I’d been eyeing for the last six months. You’re the woman I’ve craved so bad I go to bed smelling that damn cherry oil you use on your clients. You’re the woman in my car arguing over whether you deserve compliments or not. You’re the only thing I want.”

Every bone in her body seemed to gel, her blood heated and her mind went quite literally blank. She couldn’t counter an attack like that. No woman would be capable of speech after such a statement.

Dante didn’t seem to require words from her though, he simply placed two fingers against her lips and murmured, “Just follow me and you’ll see.”

Hmm, I wonder if she follows him? ;-)

Snippet Saturday--Important Date

I'm a bit late getting this up this morning. Sorry about that! So, this week's theme is an important date. I chose a scene from Touching Lace. Lacey has just found her boyfriend in the arms of her best friend. She's a little raw and feeling as if she's somehow a loser in bed. Her good buddy Nick has come to the rescue and asked her out for coffee. Neither of them realize just how important this coffee date will turn out to be, because it's the moment their friendship turns to that of lovers...

They sat in Turro’s, a little coffee shop close to Lacey’s apartment, eating apple cobbler and drinking cappuccinos. She was being so meek and quiet. Nick couldn’t help but smile. She was never meek and rarely quiet. His little maneuver in the theater had gotten to her. Good, let her ponder it a bit, wonder at his motives. Lord knew he had been pondering and wondering over his attraction to her for what seemed like an eternity. She owed him.
Nick decided to start with the topic of her recent break up. “So, as you already know I got the low down from your mom about Evan, but I’m all ears if you want to talk about it.”

Lacey looked up sharply, her pretty blue eyes revealing just the slightest hint of pain. Had he misread her relationship with the dickhead? Could it be she had real feelings for him? He’d thought she was more upset over the loss of her friendship with Christy than losing Evan. Now he wasn’t sure.

Nick reached across the scarred wood table and just barely touched her fingers. “Did you love him, Lace?” He nearly got sick at the thought of her wasting those kinds of feelings on a loser like Evan, but he needed to know what he was up against.

Lacey’s easily given kindness shone in her gorgeous eyes. He knew she was seeing her best friend in the whole world sitting across from her. She probably saw the worry he felt staring back. Her sweet smile was the same as always and had the same impact to his libido as ever. As usual, Nick hid his unfriend-like reaction, and he hated it.

“No, I didn’t love Evan.” She wrinkled her nose. “I guess that’s the saddest part. I didn’t even feel the slightest bit hurt when I caught them sponging each other up.” She laughed, and his body reacted to the throaty sound. “Oh, Nick, you should have seen them. Their ridiculous expressions, so shocked, and all I could think was ‘oh well, saves me the trouble of dumping him’.” She tried to laugh again, but sobered instead. Her expression beat at him.

His Lace was feeling a cruel stab of insecurity, and he hated it. She looked down at her cobbler; like him, she’d all but forgotten it.

“What’s wrong with me that men find it so easy to dump all over me?” Lacey’s question surprised him. She dropped her spoon in her bowl where it made a loud clang then crossed her arms over her chest and continued her angry outburst. “Why can’t I seem to hold a guy’s attention for more than a few pathetic months?”

First, Nick wanted to shout with glee because she hadn’t loved the idiot. Second, he wanted badly to shake her and rattle some sense into her. She’d damn well held his attention for a lot longer than a few meager months. But he’d only scare her away.

“You’re not to examine yourself over this guy, Lace.” He dropped his own spoon, pulled her arms apart and entwined their fingers. “There isn’t a damn thing wrong with you. It’s the men you date. They aren’t worth the air you breathe, baby.”

Lacey only shook her head in denial. “No, Nick, that’s not true. They can’t all be losers.” She gave him a half-smile. “Though I appreciate your undying loyalty.”

“It’s not loyalty.” She didn’t look convinced, so he changed tactics. “You say it’s you, right?” She shrugged, neither confirming nor denying. “Then explain to me what it is you think is wrong with you.”

Nick began to stroke his thumb over her wrist and he could feel the quickening of her pulse as it jumped wildly. As if uncomfortable, Lacey took back one of her hands, and he very nearly groaned aloud.

“It’s a little complicated.”

Nick frowned. She was keeping something from him. He could always tell. Lacey was never very good at deceit. She gave herself away every time by looking down toward the ground. “Uncomplicate it for me then.”

She tilted her head. “Is that even a word?”

“Don’t change the subject. Explain why you think every man you date ends up bored.”

A pretty bloom of pink filled Lacey’s cheeks at his personal question. Even as close as they were, he was still a guy, thus making such a conversation uncomfortable. This time he wasn’t going to let it slide. Nick wouldn’t allow her to bury her head. Lacey knew him like no one else, which meant she knew deep, meaningful conversations didn’t scare him off the way they did most men. Hell, with Lacey, going deep was a damned pleasure.

“I don’t think I’m very good in bed. There, is that plain enough for you?”

Lacey’s words were so rushed Nick would have missed half of what she said if he wasn’t so attuned to her. Luckily, Lacey couldn’t lose an eyelash without him taking notice.

Of all the reasons for her sudden lack of confidence, that had never once crossed his mind. Now he knew for sure she was picking the wrong men. Lacey’s feisty attitude and easy sensuality would make her nothing short of explosive in bed. Hell, a man would have to be blind not to see the passion and fire that simmered just beneath the surface. It would take years for a man to get bored with a woman like her. Nick suspected she didn’t have a single problem, but how could he prove it to her?

It was true a sensual and uninhibited woman like Lacey could intimidate someone like Evan. Even cause him to turn to a woman like the overblown and too obvious Christy. The loser probably needed to be in control to stoke his ego. Yep, the guys Lacey chose were clearly wusses. Otherwise, they’d know what to do with the dark-haired beauty who fairly shouted flaming hot sex!

Her sexual confidence had been shaken and it pissed him off enough to want to pay a little visit to Evan the Dickhead. And that’s when a plan began to form.

She didn’t think she could heat up the sheets worth a damn. Well, who better to teach her how completely wrong she was than a man she already cared for and trusted? He mentally squashed the little voice in his head, which vigorously shouted to him just how wrong this plan of his could go. Now to convince the stubborn and hardheaded Lacey Vaughn that her good buddy always knew best.

What Would Your Favorite Author Say?

I once asked some of my favorite authors for writing/publishing advice. They gave it to me and I've cherished their words ever since!

I've posted part of this before, but I don't think it hurts to share it again for those who might have missed it. I hope it's as helpful to you as it has been for me. :)

 ***

 Lori Foster says:

“Avoid critique groups and contests. They can not buy your book, but they can dilute your voice - which is the only unique thing any writer has. Listen to all advice given, and see how it applies to your work, but never feel pressured to make a change just to please the masses. Be honest with yourself, and admit your words are NOT golden, and can almost always use change. Yeah, it's a conflict - but no one ever said writing was easy. So much is instinctive, and if you don't have the instincts, get out while you can! LOL” – www.lorifoster.com

Maya Banks says:

"My advice to writers, especially those just starting out is to be fiercely protective of their voice. I think a lot of writers in the beginning are excited, driven and exuberant. They look for critique partners and they tend to listen to every piece of feedback because they want their book to be the best it can possibly be.

I haven’t used critique partners in a long, long time. I’m a bit rebellious because I want the book to be my own whether it flops or succeeds. When an author takes every piece of feedback and attempts to please all their critics, the result is a watered down, generic story that could have been written by anyone. An author’s voice is what makes a story special. Not the plot or the theme. Most stories have been done before. Many, many times. What makes it new and fresh is the author’s voice. An author’s voice can make the difference between an editor passing or an editor offering a contract.

Don’t be afraid to ignore “advice” especially when it comes to your story. Make sure it resonates with you before you change parts of your writing. Even when an editor or agent rejects you and offers suggestions, make sure you agree with them before you go revise your story because they are only ONE opinion. Writing isn’t about pleasing every editor or agent out there. It’s about finding ONE editor who loves your voice enough to want to invest in you as an author.

And after you’re published, you’ll find that there is a multitude of people, readers, reviewers etc who offer advice or make suggestions on ways to change, improve etc. Again, writing to please ONE person or even a vocal minority is a huge, huge mistake. Own your voice. Don’t change it for anyone. For every reader, reviewer, editor or agent who dislikes one aspect of your story, there is likely a hundred who love it. --  www.mayabanks.com

Lucy Monroe says:

“Believe in your voice and your stories and don't let anyone but your editor convince you to make changes that don't mesh with *your* heart. (Sometimes not even your editor.)” – www.lucymonroe.com

  Kimberly Raye says:

"The biggest piece of advice I can give to any writer (published or unpublished) is to believe in yourself and your work and take both seriously. If you don’t, no one else will. It wasn’t until I started believing in myself and my work that I started to go places with my writing. At first, it was just to the page, then to a critique group, then a publisher, and now it’s to thousands of readers. But it started with me having the faith to sit down and do it, to value what I was doing, to cherish and nurture it.” -- www.kimberlyraye.net

 Cynthia Eden says:

“Not everyone will love your work--and that's okay. But YOU have to love your work. Stay true to your voice. Write the story that you want to create--do not try to fit a preset mold or write what you think is "hot" right now. Believe in yourself and write the best story that you are capable of creating.” -- www.cynthiaeden.com

Brenda Williamson says:

“Carry a small recorder and talk out what's in your head. Works great when alone in the car, riding the lawnmower, soaking in the tub, and anywhere else you don't feel foolish dictating or acting out love scenes.” -- www.brendawilliamson.com

Larissa Ione says:

“Don’t sweat the small stuff…don’t get hung up on nits. An editor isn’t going to reject your book because you had too many “thats” or not enough commas in the story. Get the big stuff down – plot, characterization, voice, etc., because sometimes, the little stuff IS your voice.” -- www.larissaione.com

And here's a sexy excerpt from Body Rush as incentive:

“I’ve never been to the ocean, but I’ve always wanted to go.”

He had a feeling there were a lot of things his sweet Lydia had never done, and he couldn’t wait to introduce her to every decadent one of them. “I’ll take you to Cancun,” he promised as he took off her glasses and placed them on the table next to the bed. “We can eat lobster and make love on the beach. Would you like that, baby?”

“Dane.” Her whispered voice held a warning and Dane didn’t want to hear it. He leaned down and covered her lips with his own, stealing any further protests. She tasted like summer, soft and warm and inviting. He could drown in Lydia’s kisses. She clutched onto his shoulders, digging her little nails into his flesh through the cotton shirt. As she moaned, Dane took the kiss deeper, drawing her backwards on the bed and covering her with his body. Her tongue came out, shyly exploring and Dane opened, sucking it into his mouth. Lydia groaned and arched against him, her breasts flattening against his chest, driving out all sane thought. It wasn’t easy for him to lose control. He took pride in maintaining control in the bedroom, but Lydia went to his head quicker than whiskey.

He pulled back and muttered, “Clothes.”

Immediately Lydia grabbed the hem of her shirt and tugged it upward. He started unbuttoning his dress shirt, watching as she exposed herself for him, one slow inch at a time. He knew she wasn’t intentionally trying to be seductive, but watching the pink t-shirt reveal her sexy slightly curved belly, caused Dane’s blood to pump hard and hot through his veins. As she exposed her breasts to his view, a haze of lust washed over him, driving out all else. He yanked, popping several buttons down the front of his shirt and tossed it away. She stilled after her shirt hit the floor and bit her lip. Her plump breasts were a thing of beauty. Full, round and creamy, with little berry tips that he wanted to nibble on for hours. He ached to tie her breasts and spank them until they were a pretty shade of pink, then he’d fill her hot little pussy and drive them both over the edge.

Dane started to loosen his black leather belt, then stopped and waited to see if Lydia would continue her little striptease. Her gaze ate him up and if he didn’t miss his guess she was also holding her breath.

“Breathe, baby.” She flushed and let out a shuddering breath, her pretty tits jiggling. With her long dark hair spread out on the pillow beneath her, Dane thought she was the most adorable thing he’d ever seen. “Finish it, Lydia.”

Her fingers shook as she untied the front of her sweatpants. Dane felt a trickle of sweat run between his shoulder blades. After he pulled his belt free and laid it on the bed, he quickly finished undressing. With slow precise movements, Lydia slid her sweats down her thighs, revealing a pair of sheer red panties. He could easily see her dark curls. Dane inhaled, smelling her wet heat. Christ, he wanted to taste her. It had driven him crazy watching Trent lick at her sweet honey.

Dane clutched Lydia’s waist and slid her further onto the bed, then straddled her. With his hands at either side of her head, caging her in, he growled, “The other night you weren’t made to submit. This time I want to give you a taste of what it means to be dominated. Do you trust me, Lydia?”

She closed her eyes and whispered, “Yes.”

Don't you love getting a good review? It just makes me feel as if maybe, just maybe, I'm on the right track with my stories. Like maybe there are a few people out there who enjoy what I write. That's the best feeling of all for a writer. It's not about the money, it's about reaching the reader's heart. Making them feel for the characters. Such an awesome way to start off the week, ya know?

Anyway, here's a snippet from a review I just got from TwoLips Reviews on So Sensitive:

Snippet Saturday--color

This week's theme is 'color'. I picked a scene from WHAT SHE NEEDS (M/F/M). It's the third story in my Cape May series and this particular scene is so full of color that I knew it was the right one to share! I hope you enjoy it.

Adult Excerpt

Tory stood at the railing, staring out at the ocean. Cancun was every bit as beautiful and romantic as she’d hoped. The warm weather was perfect for snorkeling and lazing in the sun. The cool night breeze off the water sent a chill down her body as she watched the dark waves slowly rolling in, then back out again. It was their first night there. She wondered if Con and Devon would even let her out of bed to enjoy the sights, much less go snorkeling. Or if she’d let them out! She grinned at the thought, then heard a shuffling from behind. Turning her head, Tory watched Devon and Con striding toward her. They were dark, strong and mostly naked. Her body stirred to life.

"Why are you out here when we’re in there?" Con asked.

Tory barely suppressed the need to moan. Con’s deep voice always had the power to turn her on. Of course, his bare chest and sexy red boxers didn’t hurt, either. Boxers she’d bought him for their first V-Day together. "I’m enjoying the night. It’s so lovely here, Con." She pointedly looked at his boxers and wanted to curse. "I can’t believe I couldn’t think of a better gift for you and Devon."

Con took her in his arms and held her tight. "We told you before, baby,
you are the best gift any man could wish for."

"Thank you, for everything. Including this wonderful trip."

"Thank Devon too. Without him, we wouldn't be here."

Tory pushed backward and peered to the left of Con to see Devon in his brand-new electric blue knit pajama pants, a warm smile on his face. "Thank you, Devon."

He leaned close and pressed his lips to her temple. "Come on, you can thank me properly inside."

She stepped out of Con’s arms and followed Devon into their suite. The hotel was beautiful, the room ridiculously expensive, and yet it could be a hole-in-the-wall for all she cared. Her sole concentration was on Devon in that moment as he tossed his pjs on a chair and headed toward her, a gleam of wicked intent lighting his eyes.

As if the three of them had choreographed each move, Tory walked to the right until her knees hit the end of the bed, then she turned. Devon reached out and pushed at the center of her chest, knocking her to the plush, cream-colored comforter. She shimmied up the mattress so that she lay in the center. Con, in all his bronzed and dark-haired glory, stripped out of his clothes and spread out on the bed next to her, while Devon lowered himself on top of her. Their well-muscled bodies and the intensity in their sexy eyes were

enough to have any woman drooling, but the heavy weight between Devon’s legs had her aching and wet. She peeked over at Con and realized he was every bit as hard.

Tory tore her gaze away from the swelled head of his erection and searched Con’s face for signs of jealousy. He still didn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, but the soft smile he sent her way was reassurance enough.

Devon pushed his pelvis against her, gaining her attention. With the single-minded purpose of making him squirm, Tory began smoothing her right hand over his pectorals. She ran her fingers through the coarse dark curls that littered his chest and inched her legs upward until they were wrapped around his lean waist. She let her sex slide along the length of his cock, luxuriating in his deep groan of satisfaction.

"You do me in, sugar," Devon confessed as he teased his fingers down the front of her, setting off several little fires along the way. "Ah, sweet and soft," he groaned as he kissed her. His lips, so warm and firm, tasted hers as if he wanted to spend a good long time pleasuring each and every part of her with his mouth. When he flipped them both over, putting her on top, she started to protest. His pleasurable torture continued, distracting her. By slow degrees, he took playful licks of her tongue and nipped her lower lip with his teeth. When she felt a pair of masculine hands cupping and caressing her bottom, Tory broke the kiss and looked beside her to see Con propped up on his elbow. The intensity in his silver gaze scorched a path clear to her core.

I hope you enjoyed that scene. And to read an extremely HOT chapter one of What She Needs, go here

Thursday Thirteen--Hunks!

I figured it's been quite a long time since I've posted hunks so here are some brand spankin' new ones. Enjoy!

(and be sure to click the images for a larger view!)
