Snippet Saturday--Beginnings--FREE Read!

This snippet is about 'beginnings'. And in the spirit of giving I've chosen an excerpt from my free read, Instructing Sarah. The whole story is available for download on my website.

This is Greg and Sarah's first date, their beginning...

Sarah was having the time of her life with Greg. They had gone to see a movie and, much to her surprise, he’d picked a comedy. They’d laughed themselves silly. She hadn't laughed and had such a good time with a man in…well ever. They were back in his black Blazer and on their way home, but he turned down a different road.

Puzzled, she glanced over at him. "Where are we going?"

"Oh baby, the evening is not yet finished. You aren’t going to turn into a pumpkin are you?" he asked teasingly as he looked over at her for a brief moment. Sarah saw mystery in his eyes and something else pooling in their devilish depths. Hunger? But for what, Sarah wondered. Or maybe the correct word was, for whom?

She decided not to think too hard about tonight. Just to go with the flow for once.  "Well no, but I would like to know where my prince is taking me on such a lovely evening as this?"

"Now that would certainly spoil my lady's surprise, would it not?” he murmured, keeping up their lighthearted role-playing.

"Yes, I suppose it would, and I certainly wouldn't want to spoil it. Shall I close my eyes too? So your surprise will be complete and untainted?” She laughed, full well expecting him to laugh along with her.

"Yeah, close your eyes, fair lady,” he whispered lustfully, “trust in me to tell you when to open them again.” He paused, then asked a little too seriously, “Will you trust me, Sarah?"

"Yes, Greg, I trust you."  She breathed out, then proved it by closing her eyes and leaning her head back against the seat.

Greg hadn't expected the conversation to take such an interesting turn. Nevertheless, he couldn't let the opportunity to observe Sarah up close go by. She was so pretty. Especially when she laughed. She made him feel like the luckiest man on earth when the smiles were directed towards him as they had been tonight. He’d taken her to a comedy for two reasons. He wanted to take her mind off her nervousness because he knew she had been apprehensive at first. He didn’t quite understand it. She was a knockout and she seemed so confident, but around him she stuttered like a jumpy schoolgirl. The second reason was so he could watch the way her face changed as she laughed. There wasn’t anything more beautiful than a woman’s smile. Well, except for maybe a woman in the throes of a climax, obviously. What he hadn’t expected was the raging hard-on he’d gotten when her face had split into a disarming grin. Who would have thought that laughter from a woman could make a man as hard as granite? Hearing her in the theatre made him glad that it was dark. He would've made a spectacle of himself if it weren't. Hell, he was so horny by the time they’d left that he knew if he took her straight home, he'd have her stripped down on the floor, and would’ve been inside of her within seconds.

That’s when the thought had struck to take her to his brother’s bar, The Trouble Spot. As appealing as it was to take Sarah in such an abandoned way, he didn't want her to think he had no finesse at all, that he was no more than a crazed animal. Although, that was pretty much the way he felt at the moment.

Of course, Sarah wasn’t just any woman either. She was special. Sweet and kind and so fucking sexy sitting next to him with her eyes closed and her legs pressed tightly together. He couldn’t wait to get her alone, to get her out of her clothes and explore her petite body. Watch as she spread her legs wide just for him. As they turned the next corner and began traveling down the street where the bar was located, Greg peered over at Sarah to see if her eyes were still closed. They were. In fact, she had a sexy little smile on her lips and her hair was like satin, falling down past her shoulders, giving him a perfect view of her slender, delicate neck. He may well have been a vampire in some other life because the need to taste her pulsing vein with his tongue and bite into her pale, ivory flesh there, marking her, was nearly overpowering.

He pulled into the parking lot of the bar and drove around to the back, so they could enter from the private entrance. He stopped the Blazer and put it in park, but didn’t turn off the engine. He leaned closer to Sarah and whispered, "You’re turning me on right now, Sarah Templeton."

He wanted to seduce her, to mesmerize her into doing as he wished. Her lashes began to flutter open, but he touched each lid with a kiss, effectively keeping them closed. "You trusted me to say when, and I have yet to do so, my lady."

She remained quiet, but her lids never lifted, thrilling the hell out of him by her sweet submission. He caressed her hair with his fingers and stroked her silky tresses.

"I love your hair, sweetheart. So soft and baby fine."

Greg trailed his hand down its length to smooth one finger over her neck. He touched the pulse beating wildly in her throat and it seemed to quicken right under his fingertip. Greg leaned in closer still, inhaling her feminine fragrance. "Your scent is making me nuts. Bet you didn’t know I’ve thought about you, did you, Sarah?” Her mouth fell open, tempting him. He covered it with his own, tasting both her surprise and her arousal. He kept it quick… Otherwise he might strip her right there in the parking lot.

“I imagine you lying under me at night, your soft body pressed against mine as I take you slowly from behind. I’ve had my fair share of hot, erotic dreams of you, Sarah.” His voice grew raspier with the fever that ran through his veins. A fever only she could cool.

He bent his lips to her pulse and licked the length of her protruding vein. "Do you want more? Would you trust me with your body, baby?” Her jerky nod gave him exactly what he needed, her total acceptance.

“Mmm, yes. I want more of you too. So much more. I want to know all your secret little desires. The ones that cause your blood to pound hot in your veins and have you quivering with need. I want you begging and wriggling beneath me… for me."
He bent and tasted her succulent, ivory neck. It was arched up towards him like an offering to a god. He licked her soft skin and sucked her into his mouth. Then he bit her lightly, branding her as his woman...

Six Sentence Sunday--Vance's Rules

This is my very first time participating in Six Sentence Sunday so be gentle! I'm going to try to do this every Sunday if I can manage it. Today I picked a bit from my current WIP, Vance's Rules (book 2 in my Blackwater series). I hope you like it! :-)

“If I thought it was at all possible, honey, I’d never let you leave my bed.”
Shayla rolled her eyes. “But if we're going to talk properly we should be clothed. I mean, things happen when we’re naked, Vance.  You have this way of... distracting me.”
Vance grinned down at her and said,  “Yeah, but I sort of like the way you feel naked and on my lap."

Snippet Saturday--Winter

I'm sorry I'm late. It's been a busy few days and I plum forgot about posting today! Duh!

The theme is 'Winter'. I hope you like this excerpt between Jonas and Deanna! :)

“Even though it’s winter and that dress is clearly not designed to keep a body warm, you sure are heating me up pretty damn fast.”

At his words, Deanna jumped and screamed. Jonas shot out of the chair and grabbed her by the shoulders in time to keep her from tumbling off the porch. “What the hell, Jonas? You scared the crap out of me!”

Feeling like an idiot, he mumbled, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.”

She shoved out of his arms and slapped his chest. “Why are you lurking in the dark? Are you spying on me?”

Her eyes flashed fire and ice at the same time. How did she do that? It captivated the hell out of him. “Who’s spying? I just came for a friendly visit.”

“You know very well you’re spying.” She bit the words out between clenched teeth.

He leaned close, inhaling her floral scent. Lilacs. She always smelled like lilacs. Delicate and gentle. Two things Jonas didn’t know shit about. If he had any decency at all, he’d leave.

“A visit, Deanna.” He stepped back and let her pass. “I’m not allowed to visit?”

She pulled open the screen door and shoved her key into the dead bolt. “No, you aren’t. Now go away. I’m tired.”

Her voice had lowered to a quiet, husky tone. It snaked up Jonas’s chest like a caress. It pissed him off that she could get to him so easily. “Is that why you sent your date home? Because you’re tired?”

She pushed her door open, then turned to him. “That’s none of your business.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “Go home, Jonas.”

Jonas closed the distance separating them. “Let me come inside, Deanna. We need to talk.”

“No, we don’t,” she gritted out, her voice not quite as steady as before. “You need to go home and I need to sleep.”

His temper flared. “Why won’t you give me the time of day?”

Deanna shook her head and looked away.

Jonas cupped her cheek and forced her back around. He wouldn’t let her hide from him. Not ever. “This isn’t all one-sided,” he whispered. “This desire, you feel it too. I know you do.”

On a sigh, Deanna closed her eyes tight. “Just because there’s an itch doesn’t mean we should scratch it.”

Damn, her skin was as soft as flower petals. He stroked his thumb over her lower lip and found it plump, inviting. His dick hardened beneath his jeans as he imagined those full pink lips wrapped snug around his cock.

“An itch, huh?” he growled. “Is that the way you see it?”

She opened her eyes and stared up at him. The angry glare she shot him wasn’t at all what he expected. “You had your chance once. You blew it.”

Genuinely confused, Jonas dropped his hand. “Chance? You’ve shot me down at every turn, Deanna.”

She squinted and pointed her finger at his chest. “You took my brother’s side.”

He shoved a hand through his hair and prayed for patience. “Wade?”

“Yes. At Gracie’s apartment. When we were there helping clean up the mess that freak left behind. You sided with Wade. Some stupid nonsense about the sister code. Remember?”

Ah, it was all coming together finally. Gracie had been a client of his and Wade’s investigation business, but she’d quickly become the love of Wade’s life. Unfortunately, she’d been having trouble with a deranged stalker. When the creep had broken into Gracie’s apartment and tore it all to hell, they’d all rallied together to help Gracie put things back in order. Once again, Jonas had seen a chance to ask Deanna out, but she’d shot him down. Then Dean and Wade, her two overprotective brothers, had gotten involved. Jonas and Wade were not only business partners but also friends—an annoying little fact that forced Jonas to back off in his pursuit.

“Wade is like a brother to me,” he explained, “and he reminded me of that. It’s not cool to chase after your friend’s baby sister, Deanna.”

She quirked a brow at him. “And yet here you are.”

“Yes, smart-ass, here I am,” he said softly. “I talked to Wade. He’s still not crazy about the fact that I’m hot for you, but he’s not going to stand in my way either.”

If anything, her frown turned darker. “You asked for his blessing?”

“Uh, something like that, yeah.”

“He’s not my father, Jonas. I’m a grown woman. Wade has no right to interfere in my personal life.”

“Right or wrong, Deanna, Wade will always look out for you. Dean, too, for that matter.”

She sighed. “And let me guess, Wade threatened to castrate you if you hurt me. Is that it?”

Jonas propped a fist against the doorjamb, then wrapped his other hand around her waist to keep her from bolting through the open door. “The last thing I want is to hurt you, Deanna.”

Deanna’s slender fingers gripped onto his forearm. “No,” she whispered, “you just want to get me into bed.”

Sam Jennings promised his father he’d always take care of the woman who yanked him and his four brothers out of foster care. When his adoptive mom has a near-fatal heart attack, Sam knows it’s past time to live up to his word.

As he sets out to put the Blackwater Diner back on its feet, he runs into his first snag. Waitress Julie Rose’s sweet curves and long legs are driving Sam to distraction. Even his brothers aren’t immune to her kind heart. But Sam is determined to be the only man in her bed.

Julie doesn’t regret the years she lost caring for her grandmom, but now, between business classes and her job, she’s left with very little time and energy for dating. Then there’s her policy about never getting mixed up with the boss’s son. But Sam’s hard body and wicked ideas have Julie forgetting all about annoying things like rules, and she accepts his invitation to show her all she’s been missing.

“Sammy, don’t badger the girl,” his mother reprimanded.

Sam smiled, despite the gravity of the situation. “Even from a hospital bed, you’re scolding me.” After the nurse left, Sam moved next to the bed to receive his hug. As he pulled back, he grumbled, “You scared the daylights out of us.”

“I’m sorry, honey.” She patted his cheek, but her hand shook a little. “I’m going to be okay, though, you’ll see.”

“Yeah, you will be,” he confirmed. “The first step is getting you to slow down.” Sam could see the pallor in his mother’s cheeks, and there were dark circles under her eyes. Retirement was definitely on the horizon. When he looked over at Vance, he could tell his thoughts were running along the same lines.

“I’m with Sammy,” Vance said, his voice leaving no room for argument.

Wanda laughed. “How’d I raise such bossy men? Must be your father’s influence.”

“Ha!” Sam exclaimed. “We all know that when push came to shove, Dad always surrendered to your stubborn will.”

“It was my sweet smile that always had him melting.” She paused, then said, “Speaking of sweet smiles, did Julie go home?”

“No,” Vance quickly answered. “She’s in the waiting room.”

“She should be a nurse,” Sam admitted. “Didn’t lose her head one time through all this.”

“Yeah,” Vance agreed in a soft, faraway voice. “She’s something else.”

“Pretty too,” Wanda said. “Don’t you think, Sammy?”

Sam narrowed his eyes as comprehension dawned. “You wouldn’t be trying to fix me up with her, would you?”

She shrugged. “All I did was invite her to dinner. Would you rather she spend the holiday alone with a microwaveable meal instead?”

Sam rolled his eyes at his mother’s description. “A bit dramatic, don’t you think?”

“I’m only speaking the truth. She has no one, Sam.”

An image of Julie sitting in some dimly lit room, alone and sad, clouded his vision. He didn’t like it and swiftly shoved it away. “And it didn’t once enter your mind that one of us might find her sexy? That one of us might not be able to resist her pretty smiles and infectious laugh?”

“I don’t care if you did invite her with the intention of fixing one of us up with her,” Vance said with total sincerity. “I’m just glad you did.”

He glanced over at Vance and wondered at the sideways grin he sent his way. “Because she was there to help when mom had the attack?” Sam asked, even though he was damn sure that wasn’t what Vance meant.

Vance shook his head. “Because she’s a yummy addition to dinner.”
“Jesus, she’s a person, not a slice of cake.” Deep down, Sam knew Vance had it right, though. Yummy, yeah, that described her to a T. The hell if he wanted anyone else to think of Julie in that light, though.
