An Excerpt & a Weekend Contest!

How about a sexy excerpt and a contest? It's Friday and it seems like a good time to have a giveaway, don't you think? I'm going to run this contest throughout the weekend, so there is plenty of time to enter. I'll pick the winner on Monday!

All you do is simply respond to this post and you're entered. I'm giving away PRINT copies of So Sensitive and Pleasure Bound, books 1 & 2 in my Hard to Get series, to one randomly chosen winner! U.S. entries only please. Thanks! :)

Now, onto the goods. Here's a sneak peek at my upcoming Samhain release, Vance's Rules. This is book 2 in my Blackwater series. Enjoy!

His tools, his rules…

Blackwater, Book 2

Looking at Vance Jennings now, no one would guess that the tough-as-nails building contractor once suffered a broken heart. Twelve years has blunted the pain of the breakup with his high school sweetheart, but not the memory. Until she shows up on his doorstep asking for a second chance.

One look at the sexy redhead, and Vance adds a foot or two to his rock-solid emotional barriers. No way is he letting her back into his life. But he’ll be happy to let her close enough to sample her delectable body.

Shayla Riggs is no longer the vulnerable teenager who was forced to give up her first and only love. She’s older, wiser, and determined to make things right. Except the changes in Vance throw her for a loop. He’s definitely not the sweet boy she remembers. In fact, the grown-up version lights her up hotter than a firecracker.

It takes only a kiss, a caress, to bring back the explosive passion they once shared. But if Shayla can’t find a way to break through the bitter walls around his heart, it just might destroy them both. Again.

Warning: This story contains a stubborn woman intent on seduction and an alpha male with some naughty ideas of payback. Let the fireworks begin!

EXCERPT:
Watching the emotions flit across Shayla’s expressive face brought Vance back to the first moment he’d seen her. It was in Biology II, and Shayla had been wearing a demure white blouse and a pair of loose jeans. Her hair had been pulled back into a ponytail, little strands hanging around her face. At first, he’d thought her mousy and sort of forgettable. It hadn’t taken him long to start imagining what her slight curves would feel like pressed up against his body.

He’d flirted with her, and she’d blushed. It’d turned him on. He’d spent too many classroom hours staring at her ass. She’d caused a riot within his hormones, then and now. More than once, he’d imagined taking hold of the little elastic band holding her hair back and yanking it free so he could watch as all her rich, red hair cascaded down her back.

When they’d started dating, Shayla had spoiled him with her sweet, giving nature, Vance admitted to himself. He hadn’t been forced to do much chasing because she’d been so enamored of him. The first time they’d made love, in the front seat of his pickup truck, no less, Vance had been thrown for a loop by the fact she’d been a virgin. Guilt had assailed him. Hell, she’d been innocent until he’d gotten hold of her. The next morning in class, she’d looked at him and smiled. The combination of sweet innocence and naughty vixen had done him in. He’d been toast after that. Vance hadn’t been able to keep his hands off Shayla. If he remembered correctly, she’d been every bit as greedy for him.

Vance knew now what they’d had was puppy love. Shayla was more confident now. He had a feeling she wasn’t going to be quite so malleable this time around. She’d all but tossed a wrench into his well-ordered world with her sudden appearance as it was. He grinned in spite of himself. If she had any clue how intent he could be when he wanted something, she never would’ve stepped foot into his house.

When she sat on the couch in front of the fire and smiled up at him, Vance wasn’t sure whether he wanted to lick her from head to toe or push her out the door.

With resignation, Vance went to the kitchen cupboard and took out a bottle of wine. “Merlot, okay?” he called out.

“Perfect, thank you. So,” she said, “have you always lived here alone?”

It didn’t surprise him she would fish around to see if he’d ever had a woman living with him. Shayla was curious by nature. As he headed back into the living room, Vance hid a grin and decided to tease her a little.

“Actually, Elizabeth lives here with me.”

Shayla squinted. “Elizabeth? But you said you weren’t seeing anyone.”

“Elizabeth isn’t just anyone. She’s upstairs,” he said as he poured them each a glass of wine, “sprawled out on my bed.”

The look she shot him was downright lethal. “I see. Well, I hope I didn’t interrupt…anything.”

Yep, the woman was definitely jealous. Vance sat down next to her and took a sip of his wine. “Eh, Elizabeth doesn’t mind, but don’t expect her to come down and visit. She’s shy.”

Shayla tucked a wayward strand of hair behind her ear, then started drumming her fingers on her thigh. Vance knew Shayla well. The twelve years she’d been gone hadn’t changed the fact that she only performed that little ritual whenever she was agitated—and without a doubt, right now she was agitated. “How long have you two been together?”

Her gaze narrowed. “A cat?”

Vance winked. “Yep. A pretty, slightly obese, gray-and-black-striped cat that I found at the animal shelter.”

She placed her glass on the coffee table and crossed her arms over her chest. “You were putting me on.”

Vance’s gaze zeroed in on Shayla’s breasts. She wore a high-necked, peach-colored blouse, and he could just barely make out the outline of her bra. God, how he wanted to see her strip. He imagined licking her nipples, and his cock stiffened. When an image of her naked and beneath him sprang to mind, he quickly pushed it away. “Yeah,” he said as he cleared his throat, “I was. Sorry.”

She chuckled. “You really don’t sound sorry.”

Vance had to tamp down the need to reach over and simply take what he so badly wanted. He needed to do something and quick, or Shayla was going to find herself sprawled out on the couch. To hell with crazy things like logic and good sense. “I’m really not.”

Vance put his wine next to hers on the coffee table in front of them, then scooted closer. When he took her in his arms, he noticed the shock registering in her eyes. “W-What are you doing?”

“When you came here, did you want more than a clear conscience, Shay?”

She closed her eyes tight and nodded. “Yes.”

Vance’s blood heated. “Do you still have feelings for me?” he asked, all but holding his breath.

Her green eyes opened and held his captive. “I don’t know, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about you over the years.”

It wasn’t a lot to go on, but it was enough that he wanted to shout in triumph. “Maybe we should get reacquainted, then. See where things go.”

“Yes, I’d like that.”

Vance cupped her face in his hand and drew her close until she was nestled against him. “Let’s start this off right, shall we?” he murmured as he dipped his head and tasted her for the first time in what seemed like forever. Oh, hell, yeah. The woman was made for him. God, he’d missed her taste. Her scent. Her sweet, bow-shaped mouth. No woman had ever gotten to him the way she did. It was as if with a single kiss the years melted away. His sweet Shay. It pissed him off that she got to him so fast, so easily.

Vance locked his thoughts away and devoured Shayla’s plump lips. He licked, torturing them both with ideas of more. Then he teased his tongue back and forth over the seam, thrilled when she parted them for him. Only him. It was a small sign of surrender, but Vance would take whatever he could get. She twined her arms around his neck, and her curves melted against him. He ached to sink into her hot pussy. To bury his dick deep and feel her shudder all around him as they loved each other.

He moved until she was lying back over the cushion, his body covering hers. He accidentally kicked the leg of the coffee table, and the wineglasses shook. Shayla stiffened. She began to push him away, and Vance let her, but only so he could taste the delicate skin on her throat. His hand wrapped around the slim column. He licked a spot behind her ear, and she moaned his name. His cock grew hard as stone, and he let loose a low groan of need.

“Wait,” she murmured. “Please.”

Vance pulled back and looked into her eyes. Her need tore him up, but there was a good amount of apprehension there as well. “What’s wrong, honey?”

“It’s too fast. Just this morning, you were ordering me to leave.”

Vance smoothed his palm down the side of her body until he was clutching her hip. He squeezed and felt her tremble. “Don’t you think we’ve waited long enough?” He held himself in check, giving her the ultimate decision.

Her answer was pure Shayla. “I want you like crazy right now, but it can’t be merely sex. There has to be more between us.”

He frowned down at her. “It’s not just a quick fuck I’m looking for here.”

Sam's Promise--Now Available!

Hi Ladies and Gents!
This is just a quick note to let you all know that Sam's Promise, Blackwater book 1, is now available on the Samhain website, Amazon Kindle and B & N Nook.

This Thanksgiving comes with all the fixings…and something extra hot.

Blackwater, Book 1

Sam Jennings promised his father he’d always take care of the woman who yanked him and his four brothers out of foster care. When his adoptive mom has a near-fatal heart attack, Sam knows it’s past time to live up to his word.

As he sets out to put the Blackwater Diner back on its feet, he runs into his first snag. Waitress Julie Rose’s sweet curves and long legs are driving Sam to distraction. Even his brothers aren’t immune to her kind heart. But Sam is determined to be the only man in her bed.

Julie doesn’t regret the years she lost caring for her grandmom, but now, between business classes and her job, she’s left with very little time and energy for dating. Then there’s her policy about never getting mixed up with the boss’s son. But Sam’s hard body and wicked ideas have Julie forgetting all about annoying things like rules, and she accepts his invitation to show her all she’s been missing.

Sam is more than willing to take things slow as he teaches her all about the pleasures of the flesh. Luckily for him, Julie is a darned good student…

“Sammy, don’t badger the girl,” his mother reprimanded.

Sam smiled, despite the gravity of the situation. “Even from a hospital bed, you’re scolding me.” After the nurse left, Sam moved next to the bed to receive his hug. As he pulled back, he grumbled, “You scared the daylights out of us.”

“I’m sorry, honey.” She patted his cheek, but her hand shook a little. “I’m going to be okay, though, you’ll see.”

“Yeah, you will be,” he confirmed. “The first step is getting you to slow down.” Sam could see the pallor in his mother’s cheeks, and there were dark circles under her eyes. Retirement was definitely on the horizon. When he looked over at Vance, he could tell his thoughts were running along the same lines.

“I’m with Sammy,” Vance said, his voice leaving no room for argument.

Wanda laughed. “How’d I raise such bossy men? Must be your father’s influence.”

“Ha!” Sam exclaimed. “We all know that when push came to shove, Dad always surrendered to your stubborn will.”

“It was my sweet smile that always had him melting.” She paused, then said, “Speaking of sweet smiles, did Julie go home?”

“No,” Vance quickly answered. “She’s in the waiting room.”

“She should be a nurse,” Sam admitted. “Didn’t lose her head one time through all this.”

“Yeah,” Vance agreed in a soft, faraway voice. “She’s something else.”

“Pretty too,” Wanda said. “Don’t you think, Sammy?”

Sam narrowed his eyes as comprehension dawned. “You wouldn’t be trying to fix me up with her, would you?”

She shrugged. “All I did was invite her to dinner. Would you rather she spend the holiday alone with a microwaveable meal instead?”

Sam rolled his eyes at his mother’s description. “A bit dramatic, don’t you think?”

“I’m only speaking the truth. She has no one, Sam.”

An image of Julie sitting in some dimly lit room, alone and sad, clouded his vision. He didn’t like it and swiftly shoved it away. “And it didn’t once enter your mind that one of us might find her sexy? That one of us might not be able to resist her pretty smiles and infectious laugh?”

“I don’t care if you did invite her with the intention of fixing one of us up with her,” Vance said with total sincerity. “I’m just glad you did.”

He glanced over at Vance and wondered at the sideways grin he sent his way. “Because she was there to help when mom had the attack?” Sam asked, even though he was damn sure that wasn’t what Vance meant.

Vance shook his head. “Because she’s a yummy addition to dinner.”
“Jesus, she’s a person, not a slice of cake.” Deep down, Sam knew Vance had it right, though. Yummy, yeah, that described her to a T. The hell if he wanted anyone else to think of Julie in that light, though.

Sam's Promise--Cover Unveiling!

If you're on my Facebook Fan Page then you saw this already. But I wanted to share it here too. I love it too much not to show it to everyone!

This is the gorgeous cover for my December 13th Samhain Publishing release, Sam's Promise, which is the first story in my Blackwater series. Yummy, huh?
And a quote from the hero of the story, Sam Jennings:

He shoved his hands in the front pockets of his pants to keep himself from reaching out and tugging her into his arms. “Just know that I like you in the waitress getup. I like you in the sexy-ass dress and heels too. And I really like you in the oversized sweats. The fact is, I just like you.”

Go HERE to read an excerpt!

And be sure to stop by here tomorrow for my Saturday Snippet. This time the theme is 'author's choice'. And trust me, my choice is going to be EXTRA HOT!!

A New Hunk, A Contest, & An Update!

I have several things to share with you all today. First, thanks to Mari Carr and Lauren Dane I'm now taking part in Snippet Saturday. What is Snippet Saturday? This is where a bunch of us authors post excerpts from our releases, current and upcoming, along with the links to all the other authors' blogs taking part in Snippet Saturday. There is a theme to the excerpts and each Saturday is different and fun. I'm new to this thing, but the other ladies are old hats at it. So, to kick off MY part in Snippet Saturday, I decided to have a contest! *grin* I'm way overdue for one anyway and I have a ton of author copies here to unload on some unsuspecting readers. BWAHAHA!

Here's the deal. This Saturday, Sept. 3rd, I'm going to share an excerpt with you all and I'll be giving away some print books in the process. I'll pick several winners from those who leave me a comment on Saturday. So, be sure to come by and say hi!

Also, if you look to the left you'll see that I've posted my September Hunk. Cute, huh? hehe! I had several cuties in my hunk folder and I couldn't decide which one I liked best. To help me I enlisted the crew on my Yahoo Group, Reading After Dark. There were two guys that ulimately gained several votes, but sleeping beauty there won the most votes. In order to keep Guy #2 from feeling left out, however, I've decided he should be October's Hunk. It's only fair, after all.

Last but not least, I've updated my website. Somewhat. I still have more updates to do, but there is only so much time in a day. Anywho, for a sneak peek at my upcoming Samhain release, Sam's Promise, check out this page. Sam's Promise is the first in the Blackwater series and I'm really excited about it. Also, there is a tiny bit of info there about the second book in the series, Vance's Rules. I hope you like what you read. ;-)

A little bit of background about the Blackwater series. One day my oldest daughter came home from school talking about these boys she knows. Five brothers, all adopted. I had to wonder what sort of person would take on five boys to raise? Someone very special, no doubt. Well, the idea took root and I realized I had a rather emotional start to a series here. Thus, the Jennings brothers were created.

Sam, Vance, Brodix, Reilly and River.

All five of these guys have had their share of hard knocks. All are emotionally damaged. And all are completely loyal to Wanda, their adoptive mother. She took them in and gave them their first real taste of love. Wanda taught them what it meant to be a family. So, when she has a heart attack and they learn the family business, the Blackwater Diner, is near bankruptcy, they all step in to make things right. Along the way, though, Wanda has plans of her own. Plans that include finding the perfect match for each of her boys--and she tends to get what she wants, one way or another. :)

And before I go, I wanted to remind everyone that I've posted the prologue to my upcoming Kensington release, Pleasure Bound, on my website. You can read it here

Happy reading,

New Contract, New Series!

I've signed a new contract with Samhain Publishing! Woohoo!

Sam's Promise is the first of a five book series and I'm really excited about it.
This one releases December 14th.

Blackwater series, book one
The restaurant might be his legacy, but she’s his future…

And here's a small excerpt:

“Thank you for a wonderful evening.”

Julie’s soft voice floated down his spine like a gentle kiss. As they stood at her front door, her big eyes staring up at him, Sam knew he had no right to be perturbed by the fact that she wasn’t inviting him in. He was left wondering if he should kiss her or simply play it off. Like the date was nothing more than a thank-you as he’d said it would be. He felt awkward, damn it. Hell, he wasn’t a damn teenager anymore.

“You’re welcome.” Not what he wanted to say, but he wasn’t sure of Julie. She had a sharp wit, and she was kind—to everyone. Even their waiter had been enraptured by her. It made Sam wonder if she saw him any differently than a casual acquaintance. Somewhere along the line, he’d decided he wanted to be anything but casual with Julie.

“I hope it was worth the work you’ll have to do on your friend’s car.”

“Well worth it.” Shit, they’d been reduced to small talk.

She sighed and turned around, then pressed her key into the lock. After Julie had the door open, she turned to him. “Look, I don’t know what to do here. My dating days have been pretty limited. I don’t want you to think I’m a prude for not inviting you in, but I don’t want to appear too…easy if I asked you in for a nightcap. And to top it all off, I have no idea if this is still just a thank-you date. So basically I’m a fish out of water here.”

Her rushed speech and the fact she was nervous made Sam feel a shitload better. They were both thrown for a loop, it seemed. “This whole thing is new ground for you, huh?”

“Very new. Like brand-spanking new. So new it’s still sealed in cellophane.”

He chuckled. “How about we leave the decision up to me, then?”

She bit her lip. “What do you mean?”

He planted his fist against the doorjamb and asked, “May I come in for a cup of coffee, Miss Rose?”

Her gaze narrowed. “First, Miss Rose makes me sound like a sad, old woman with thirty cats to keep her company. Second, just coffee?”

“Unless you have lemon merengue pie to go with it.” He tapped her on the nose. “Do you?”

He watched as all the nervousness seemed to evaporate. “No pie, but I do have some chocolate chip cookies.”

“Sounds good to me.” She nodded and smiled finally, much to Sam’s relief, then opened the door. Sam followed her into the condo and shut the door behind him.
